ABSTRACT

The number of students using online educational systems is increasing, especially after the growth of the use of this type of system due to the social isolation caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. This situation highlighted the challenge of analyzing the users' experience in this type of system, especially when evaluating more complex experiences, such as the flow experience. One of the most promising innovative alternatives is to use the behavior data logs produced by students in educational systems to analyze their experiences. In this paper, we conducted a study (N = 24) to analyze the relationships between the behavior data logs produced by students when using a gamified educational system and their flow experience during the system usage. Our results contribute to the automatic users' experience analysis in educational systems. © 2022 IEEE Computer Society. All rights reserved.

ABSTRACT

The article aims to analyse the factors that affect the travel intention of the tourism consumer during the Covid-19 pandemic for the year 2021 and 2022. The research is quantitative, with a conceptual scope built from research of the literature. The data collection instrument was a questionnaire based on the Theory of Planned Behavior. The survey was organised using Google Forms in January 2021. The type of sampling was non-probabilistic, with 174 valid questionnaires. The analysis techniques were: Exploratory Factor Analysis (AFE) and Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). The structural model resulting from the cross-referencing of the data was shown to be adequate for the explanation and adjustment of the sample, since an R2 of 0.75 was obtained. The hypotheses raised were confirmed, giving positive travel intentions for the year 2021 and 2022, and signalling resistant behavior in tourists. © PASOS. Revista de Turismo y Patrimonio Cultural.

ABSTRACT

The pandemic pushed companies to rethink competitive strategies and the innovation ecosystem structure. Then, we studied four small organizations from different industries through interviews, observations, and documentation. We offer five key findings: First, the crisis affected the cases in distinct ways, benefiting those in the healthcare sector. Second, innovation ecosystems provided opportunities for digitalization to keep businesses running. Third, resilience and initiative from the ecosystem leaders were crucial in responding to the crisis. Fourth, shifts in competition and cooperation favored survival. Lastly, the competitive strategy and ecosystem goals set before the pandemic have not changed, but how to achieve them. © 2023 Elsevier B.V.

ABSTRACT

In socio-economic crises, such as the recent Covid-19 pandemic, it is crucial to enhance children’s understanding of the new situation and their choices to protect their physical and mental health. In this paper, we discuss the design of a serious choice-driven simulation game, called “Covid-19 Survivor”, as a means to empower students’ awareness of pandemic risks and consequences through decision making and system analysis. The online game simulates the daily routine of a school student through a system of available choices and consequences to five game fields. We qualitatively evaluated the game in a classroom setting with twenty-six 13 years old students and one IT teacher. The preliminary results demonstrate its potential to influence students’ perceptions and knowledge about the pandemic as well as to enhance their decision-making and systems thinking skills. © 2021, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

ABSTRACT

In the face of an unprecedented health and humanitarian crisis, the denial of the far-right government has led to a disastrous management of the Covid-19 pandemic in Brazil. We defend the argument that a deliberate project to exterminate the most vulnerable populations is underway. This study aims to analyze the impacts of social distancing measures in the trans community, seeking to offer subsidies to articulate an understanding that favors an ethical-political management of the pandemic. In the article we developed this argument around the consequences of necropolitics on precarious lives. We incorporate the voices of people linked to trans activism who share their experiences supporting the community. We situate the ongoing social processes that produce norms that regulate and make the peripheral trans bodies vulnerable. Solidarity and measures to mitigate the suffering of the excluded may represent an inflexion in the ongoing process of institutionalizing inequality. © Associacao Brasileira de Psicologia Social.

ABSTRACT

Objective: To assess the influence of the COVID-19 pandemic on levels of anxiety, stress, and orofacial pain in individuals with and without TMD. Material and Methods: In this cross-sectional study, the participants were divided into two groups (n=10, each) experimental group (EG) TMD patients and control group (CG), without TMD. The presence of TMD was confirmed using the RDC/TMD. The Beck Anxiety Scale (BAI), Perceived Stress Scale (PSS), and Oral Analog Scale were used for assessment. The Beck Anxiety Scale is composed of 21 multiple-choice questions describing symptoms of anxiety, while the PSS is a measure that evaluates life situations as stressful. An Oral Analogue Scale was applied to each individual to quantify orofacial pain, with 0 (zero) without pain and 10 (ten) being the worst pain ever felt. The comparison between groups was performed using the Mann-Whitney test. Logistic regression was used to verify TMD dependence in relation to BAI and PSS-10. Quantitative variables were correlated with each other by Pearson's correlation coefficient. The level of significance considered for all tests was 5%. Results: The association was statistically significant (p <= 0.05) for BAI and PSS with a TMD. Conclusion: Although the COVID 19 pandemic has had a psychological impact on the general population, patients with TMD have higher levels of anxiety and stress than the control group.

ABSTRACT

Religiosity and spirituality have been studied as resources for coping with crisis and social disruption. This study investigates religiosity/spirituality as a potential protective resource against the emotional impact of the COVID-19 pandemic in individuals diagnosed with malignant and non-malignant chronic diseases. This is a cross-sectional, descriptive-exploratory study, with a quanti-qualitative approach. The convenience sample was composed of 78 individuals, divided into two groups. An online form was used. The data from the close-ended questions were tabulated using descriptive statistics. The content of the open-ended questions was examined qualitatively by thematic analysis. The two groups showed signs of emotional distress at similar levels and expressed increased faith and belief that future gains should come from the current distress. Individuals with life-threatening diseases expressed intensified spirituality. Faith was highlighted by participants as a resource to face the challenges of this dramatic period and should be valued by health care teams. © 2022, Pontificia Universidade Catolica de Campinas. ABSTRACT

This article aims to reflect, based on Winnicott's theory of maturation, on the impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic and measures of social isolation in the adolescents' mental health. Some of the adolescents' paradoxical experiences when facing the pandemic are: need for separation from parents or caregivers and confinement;need for group coexistence and social isolation;need for continued care by society and blockage or changes in service priorities. This population experiences the impossibility of carrying out the healthy processes of maturation, inserted in an invasive and scarcely supportive environment, which may result in a generation of sick adults and adults characterized by the development of a false self. This study sheds light on the ideo-affective life of a population that has been overlooked during the pandemic and brings important reflections on interprofessional practices aimed at adolescents.
